Myanmar (Republic of the Union of Myanmar = Pyi-daung-zu Thamada Myanmar Naing-ngan-taw), formerly known as Burma until 1989, comprising of seven states and seven regions, is one of the most attractive places in South East Asia. Myanmar is the largest country in the mainland South East Asia (see Facts and Figures). It is bordered by China on the north, India on the north-west, Lao People's Democratic Republic on the east, Thailand on the south-east, Bangladesh on the west, with the Andaman Sea to the south, and the Bay of Bengal to the south-west. The coastal districts are usually referred to as Lower Myanmar whereas the inland districts are usually called Upper Myanmar. There are 135 ethnic groups in Myanmar that have been living in coexistence with one another for a long time.

There are tremendous business and investment opportunities in Myanmar. Myanmar has rich natural resources such as teak forests, minerals, gems, and fertile plains, valleys, and deltas. Furthermore, its historical and cultural attractions date back to many centuries, offering vast potential for tourism. Myanmar also has a long coastline with waters rich in fish and other marine life.
